TRADITIONAL SPANISH GAMES

GAME 1: BLIND HEN

Name of the game:        BLIND HEN
Number of participants:  more than 3
Materials: something to cover the eyes
Rules: a child in the middle with the eyes covered. The others make him or her turn around while singing the song:
“Blind hen
What did you lost?
Turn around
And it will be found”
The “blind hen” should catch another pupil. The others touch the hen to help her to find them, but trying not to be caught.




GAME 2: MOUSE THE CAT IS GOING TO CATCH YOU



Name of the game:  MOUSE, THE CAT IS GOING TO CATCH YOU.
Number of participants: 10-20
Materials: none
Rules:
Students are sitting on the floor forming a circle. A student is runs around the circle while others sing the song. When this song ends the student touches someone. This person must runs to catch the other before sitting down in the circle again. If not, they change places.
Song:
“Mouse the cat is going to catch you,
Mouse the cat is going to catch you,
If it don’t catch you today
Tomorrow will be the date”






GAME 3: RED CROSS-GREEN CROSS


Name: RED CROSS- GREEN CROSS
Number of participants: A minimum of four participants
Material: It doesn’t need any material
Rules:
- By random one person is chosen to catch the other participants.
- The rest of participants must run away to avoid to be trapped.
- If one of the rest of participants is near to be trapped, this boy or girl must shout “Red Cross” and stand with the arms stretched out to the sides and the legs open.
- With this action the person will be save, but he or she cannot move again until other participant go through his or her legs, shouting at the same time “Green Cross”.
- In that moment he or she will be free again to run and to try to escape from the person in charge to catch the others.
- The person who catches the other will charge the role when he or she catches someone.






GAME 5: LITTLE PIGEON

Name of the game:        LITTLE  PIGEON
Number of participants:  7-21
Materials:  elastic ribbons.
Rules:
Two students hold the elastic ribbon and say "pa-lo-mi-ta"(pigeon). They move the elastic ribbon to make it be tangled. The ribbon can also be stepped on to make it more difficult. Rests of students have to pass from one side to the other without touching the elastic ribbon.




GAME 6: RAYUELA

Name of the game:  Rayuela.
Number of participants: A minimum of one participant.
Materials: A piece of chalk and a small stone.
Rules: - Using the piece of chalk, you must draw on the floor the diagram which appears below.
- The first participant must throw the stone into square number 1 without touching the lines.
- After that, the participant has to jump into the squares using one or two feet depending on the diagram.
-The participant must go and back jumping into the squares but he or she cannot jump into the square where the stone is placed.
- When the participant is coming back he or she must pick up the stone and throw it again outside the diagram, and continue jumping until the end of it, but remember is forbidden to jump into the square where the stone is placed.
- If someone touches any line, jumps into the square where the stone is, or throws the stone outside the square that person loses the turn and must try again the same route.
- When all the participants have done the route the first of them must throw the stone into square number 2 and act in the same way, after that square number 3 and continue until square number 10.
- The winner will be the person who finishes the 10 routes the first one.



GAME 7: PRISONER BALL

 Name of the game: PRISONER BALL
Number of participants: 14-30
Materials: a ball
Rules:
Two teams. Each one in half court. Behind each bottom line is "cementerio" (graveyard) area. Teams throw the ball trying to beat an opponent. The player reached is "dead" and goes to the graveyard of the field. This person can be safe if manages to reach some enemy. If a player catches a ball that launches another team, will not be considered "dead", but if the ball falls yes. When in a team left only a player and is not reached in 10 launches, it can recover a colleague.



GAME 8: THE HANDKERCHIEF
Name of the game: THE HANDKERCHIEF     
Number of participants: 7-21
Materials: a handkerchief
Rules:
Two groups. Each assigns a number to each of its members. This way both teams have the same numbers. We will make two stripes on the floor and each team is placed behind. A student with a handkerchief is placed in the middle and says a number. The participants who have that number runs to catch the handkerchief. The participant who takes the handkerchief should run with his team without being caught. If you are caught you are out and if not the other participant is out.












GAME 9:  1, 2, 3 ENGLISH CHICK    


Name of the game:  1, 2, 3 ENGLISH CHICK  
Number of participants:  5-25
Materials:  none
Rules:  a student is placed facing the wall and the rest in the other end of the classroom, gym or at 10 meters distance approximately. When the student facing the wall says: "one, two, two, three, English chick" everybody advance. If somebody is seeing moving this person will have to go back to the starting point. The goal is reach the wall without being seen. This student will be the next one to be facing the wall.






GAME 10:  I’M THE QUEEN OF THE SEA
Name of the game:        I’M THE QUEEN OF THE SEA
Number of participants: 3-10
Rules:
Two students move the rope. Another jump while singing the song. When the song mentions it the pupil who is jumping should throw a handkerchief to the ground and collect it without stepping on the rope. If this occurs the child would take the place of one of the students that are moving the rope.
